Transitions Birth Doulas was founded by Stacy and Kathy in March 2002. They met while working together at Pioneer Doula, and when that business moved out of the area, they formed their own doula service.

Going beyond the prevalent solo doula practice, Stacy and Kathy sought and have achieved a business model that emphasizes professionalism, immense skill and talent, and a team-focused approach to providing doula services.

Adding Lori in 2002, Margaret in 2003, Wendy Wyatt in 2004, and Kate Brunner in 2005 has enabled Transitions to remain the premier doula service for the DC Metro area. While Lori remains active in the doula business, Kathy is enjoying her first grandbaby, Stacy has moved back home to Washington state to be closer to her family, and the other doulas have left to spend more time with their families and pursue other interests.

Stacy Vicars, founder, has been a doula since 1997. She has attended over 120 births and has taught childbirth education courses to hundreds of families. In the fall of 2005, Stacy and her family moved back to Washington state to be closer to family.



Kathy Hoppe, founder, has been serving birthing women and families for over 20 years and has attended over 120 births. She is also a lactation educator and has assisted hundreds of new mothers in breastfeeding. Kathy is taking a very limited number of private clients as she focuses her time and energy on her family.
