Margaret was honored to support Lori, a friend and fellow Transitions doula, during the birth of her third child. Lori gave birth to her second child via cesarean section, so she felt a homebirth under the care of a homebirth midwife was the safest choice this time. After about 9 hours of laboring in the tub, on the birth ball, and in bed, she began feeling "pushy" but a vaginal exam found her to be only 4 cm dilated. She spent the remainder of her intense labor trying very hard to avoid the urge to push with support from her husband, doulas (she had two!), sister, midwife, and birth assistant. Finally around 5:45 pm, mom was able to work with her body and thirty minutes later, she pushed out a beautiful 8 pound, 13 ounce, 19 inch baby girl. Lori's strength, tenacity and determination carried her through this experience. Lori, Mike, and the whole birth team were elated with this successful vaginal birth after cesarean.
